North Jersey Villages

Quote of the Month

I know I have the body but of a weak, feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too, and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realm.

Board of Directors

Kathy Kuzma

Kathy Kuzma, CALA, CSA
Executive Director

In 2003, Kathy obtained an MPA in public and non-profit management focusing on issues facing the growing moderate income senior population, state and local policies, and available social services. Between 2004 and 2015, while being a caregiver for several family members, Kathy was certified by the national Society of Certified Senior Advisors (CSA) and as a New Jersey Assisted Living Administrator (CALA); she was on an NCOA program team introducing Medicare Part D and served as a SHIP Counselor on Medicare and Medicaid.

Maintaining her CALA and CSA certifications, Kathy keeps abreast of policy changes, new resources, and areas requiring advocacy within the full spectrum of health, financial and social issues facing seniors, their caregivers, and their service providers. She served on the 2015 and 2016 CSA Conference Speaker Selection Committee. She is a member of the Bergen County COYL Task Force; local committees participating in the Age Friendly Communities Initiative in Bergen County; and the national Village-to-Village Network.

At a 2014 CSA Conference, Kathy was introduced to the virtual Village concept for older adults choosing to age in their own homes and community. After exploring the tools available through Village to Village Network membership, Kathy organized a Steering Team to further explore introducing this concept to Bergen County. Kathy brings to NJV her passion for working with seniors to maintain their quality of life while aging at home as well as her background in education, market research, 40 years of working with volunteers, and 25 years as a Founding Trustee of another not-for-profit, all volunteer organization, Ukrainian Gift of Life, Inc. (UGOL).

Terry is a member of the Auxiliary for the Little Sisters of the Poor, planning and participating in fundraisers for St. Joseph’s Home for the elderly. She has tutored adults for The Literacy Council in Bonita Springs, Fl and is a docent at the The Friends of Barefoot Beach Learning Center, Naples. Janet has also been member and trustee of several community, state and national education associations, actively advocating for an underserved population of uniquely talented children and their families’ challenges while identifying new trends that could meet their needs. Janet transfers this understanding of the importance of advocacy and embracing new trends as she promotes the virtual Village concept and the networks being developed within the NJV HUB Village that can address the challenges and opportunities of the underserved growing population of moderate income older adults choosing to age at home in Bergen County.

Edward Weiner

Edward Weiner
Director

Eddie Weiner is Director of Care Support, Age Well Family Solutions, a geriatric care management company

Based on his 16 years of experience, working in assisted living communities, nursing home and rehabilitation centers, homecare agencies, and hospice organizations, Eddie sees the value of many non-medical services that existing "villages" are providing. Villages are meeting these needs when not provided by other local agencies or organizations and when they would not be covered by insurance.
